Lakes Vista Office Park Goes Live   12th December 2011

Today, Spiderbox launched their Technology Platform in partnership with Orra Pacific, at the Lakes Vista Office Park. With the last stages of the build complete, the fibre optic services were 'lit up' as the first tenants of the business park commenced operations.

The Platform has been deployed on high speed fibre optic infrastructure, providing services usually only available to near CBD businesses. These services include IP telephony and high speed broadband.

One of the biggest problems for any business considering a move away from the CBD is that commnunications options become more limited, the further out the business travels.

Spiderbox General Manager, George Beatty says "over the past few years we've delivered many services to multi-tenant facilities. We've listened to their operators, and what they're saying is that communications are high on the list of customer demands."

"What we're doing here is giving the operator the chance to say 'yes, your communications needs are taken care of' which results in less hurdles and more converted sales or leasing opportunities."

Paul Brandenburg, director of Orra Pacific is equally pleased, saying that "This partnership puts our developments five years ahead of the curve in terms of the comprehensive package we can offer our clients."

5000 businesses affected by QLD floods - Spiderbox assists.   18th January 2011

There are over 5000 businesses affected by the QLD floods to date. Those most affected in Brisbane are from low-lying areas and from the Brisbane CBD itself. These businesses are currently moving to higher ground and setting up temporary facilities.

Spiderbox is perfectly positioned on the Brisbane Technology Park at Eight Mile Plains to accommodate these businesses in spare office space around the park. Most buildings are either already on the Spiderbox fibre network, or can be reached by microwave at short notice. The influx of companies desperate for help is quite amazing, they're everywhere. Spiderbox even has the NOC of a major bank in the spare room out the back of the office.

Brisbane's major disaster recovery firm, Interactive, is also located on the park. They have "bums-on-seats" DR which allows businesses to come out here and take seats in their purpose built facility when a disaster occurs. Due to the massive scope of the floods, they currently have too many people and not enough seats. Interactive have rapidly expanded their facilities with communications assistance from Spiderbox.

All of these businesses need communications, telephony and a place to sit. The cooperative effort from Spiderbox and Interactive has ensured that these businesses have a dry place to setup temporary facilities and continue work while their primary site is recovered.

Single billing remains elusive for Telstra   25th March 2010

Plagued by ongoing challenges, this article seen in the Financial Review MIS newsletter, states..
"The telco has spent the past 3 years trying to transfer customers to a new system that generates a single bill for their home or business phone, mobile number and internet account.

But a leading telecommunications analyst has compared the project to unraveling a ball of spaghetti and predicted that it would not be completed in the foreseeable future"

Very interesting considering that the clever team at Spiderbox have designed a complete billing system that has been in operation for a number of years which provides our customers with a single consolidated bill for all services they have with Spiderbox.

Prime Minister Rudd acknowledges the NBN is essential for carbon emission reducing technologies   25th March 2010

As the Federal Government and Telstra edge closer to a broadband deal, Minister Stephen Conroy offered reassurance of the promised "wholesale, open access network".

Prime Minister Rudd stated that...
"Video conferencing was reducing the need for face-to-face meetings and lowering air travel carbon emissions, while smart meters could significantly reduce the amount of energy used in Australian Households."

Spiderbox added low bandwidth video conferencing products into the suite of services early in 2009, quickly recognising the substantial carbon emission and cost savings that the technology provides to enterprises with multiple locations across Australia.

In addition Spiderbox has maintained a commitment to industry research and development which has produced wireless sensor technology capability for implementation into smart metering products for industries including marinas and electricity metering.

SMEs must embrace video, leading Asian mobile entrepreneur says   23rd March 2010

Recent forecasts by Cisco suggest video will represent 66% of mobile content by 2014.

Roy also points to the US, where 41% of all television is viewed via the internet; in the next two years, internet television viewing is expected to eclipse viewing on actual TVs.

Roy says SMEs who are attempting to reach customers via online channels such as search and social media should not underestimate the rise of video and the role it can play in bringing customers to a brand.

Companies should also look at ways to convert traditional text-based content to video, with a good example being customer testimonials, which could easily be created in a video format.

"People tend to trust what they see and hear much more," Roy argues.

Even simple video content such as YouTube "how to" guides will help companies tap into this trend.

"YouTube is now the world's second biggest search engine," Roy says.Read the Smart Company article here:

Conroy moves to make new housing developments NBN-ready   18th March 2010

“The legislation will allow the targeting of those developments where it is practicable to have fibre now, while ensuring others are ready to have fibre installed as soon as it is possible and cost-effective in the future,” according to the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy (DBCDE).

“The government considers it counterproductive to rollout fibre nationally and leave new developments behind,” the DBCDE’s website reads. “Installing fibre in new developments will give property buyers early access to the benefits of next-generation broadband and help avoid future retrofitting costs.”

The government argues that making new developments fibre-ready is already standard industry practice and reflects the value that would-be new home owners place on new developments which include FTTP infrastructure.
Telecommunications Legislation Amendment (Fibre Deployment) Bill 2010 will allow the communications minister to dictate which developments must have FTTP infrastructure.

North Lakes Business Park Continues to Grow   8th March 2010

March 2, 2010

North Lakes Business Park is well on its way to becoming one of South East Queensland’s premier business destinations, with Stockland launching the next two stages of the thriving project.

The new stages include 27 new lots ranging in size from 1,982sqm to 5,117sqm and are suitable for a wide variety of commercial and light industrial uses. Four super lots have also been released, ranging from 4-7 hectares and ideally suited to national organisations seeking a foothold in Brisbane’s booming northern corridor. North Lakes Business Park is a key component of Stockland’s award-winning masterplanned North Lakes community, located adjacent to the Town Centre.

The first tenants of the business park have already commenced operations with several more local businesses expected to open their doors soon. Stockland’s National Trading Manager Troy Bryant says the company is delighted with the strong recent sales activity, which is set to continue during 2010.

“We have seen a major pick-up in confidence among buyers as they realise what a regional economic powerhouse the North Lakes community is becoming,’’ Bryant says.

“Around 12,000 people live in this emerging satellite city which is perfectly located for business because of its proximity to the Brisbane CBD, the Sunshine Coast and the airport,” he says.

A ‘green’ focus

Sustainability is a major hallmark of the North Lakes Business Park with several key measures, such as a unique $100,000 Green Fund to encourage companies to use superior sustainable building practices. The Stockland fund is believed to be a first for Queensland and is aimed at creating one of the state’s most environmentally friendly locations to work and do business.

Other sustainability measures include detailed guidelines which encourage owners and tenants to use sustainability initiatives in building designs. The business park also features its own high-speed fibre optic cable network, which is available to all tenants.

Existing businesses operating from the project include Snowdonia Air-conditioning Services, Bridgestone Tyre Centre and Airconditioning Direct. New companies starting operations include children’s swim school Aquatic Achievers, car service company Ultra Tune, and engineering consultancy MineCraft.

Located approximately 30 minutes from Brisbane’s CBD and 40 minutes from the Sunshine Coast, North Lakes Business Park is suitable for a variety of business uses, such as light/industrial, wholesale, bulky retail and high tech industry.
